A Last Minute Golf Challenge hehehe...

Nope! I'm not a golfer, don't ask me anything about it. Whatever jargon related to this particular sport, remains alien to me. Then suddenly, my cousin; Aysha asked me to do a golf theme cupcakes for her boss' farewell party. To make it more interesting, she ordered them just a day before, the day on which our schedule was full.. duh.. okay where's that google search engine?? Where's Tiger Woods when I needed him the most?? I just had to make do with my so-called golfer's imagination. Took out all my fondant tools & colorings. Went into a trance.. ekekekeke & I got carried away with the turf! Well, there's always a first time to everything right? Be nice to me would you... please?

I managed to come up with my version of the golf course but according to Aysha's friends, the grasses were too much.. Well, my grasses were happy grasses ekekekeke!!! They would surely post as a challenge for any golfers to find their golf balls in them.

I don't mind the criticisms as I'll take them in a positive way. At least some were made happy by this golf turf of mine hehehe.. Next time I'll surely make a field trip before any project such as this one. By the way these are yummy Red Velvet cupcakes with cream cheese topping, underneath the fondant that is :-).

Regardless of everything, I still adore my first ever golf course.. All my creations are my babies, I made them all with love, I guess that's why the grasses are longer & greener on this side of my world hehehehe.. Til we meet again!

Atie & Fairuz = A Love Story

Being in love is the greatest feeling one could ever experience. Sometimes when we drove past an old empty house or a meadow with cows grazing the green grass and even a clearing in the woods, I said to myself; "I don't mind the cobwebs or even the lingering ghosts in the empty house, who cares about the pungent smell of the cow dung in the meadow, and the howling of the wolves in the woods won't scare me a bit.. so long as I have my husband with me.. my one & truly the love of my life.." Hahahaha!! Am I pathetic or just a helpless romantic?? I guess, I don't mind being both, it's not everyday that you get to spend the rest of your life with your best friend who also happens to be your husband.
As the saying goes; 'Absence Makes the Heart Grows Fonder'. Atie is in KL whereby Fairuz is in Papar, Sabah. The distance between them is clearly not a barrier. Atie was so happy when we agreed to deliver all the way to Papar which was almost an hour drive from our place. Well, we just couldn't resist the temptation to surprise people, if everything goes as planned that is.. hehehehe.. In this one particular case, it worked well alright! We got lost but thank God to Google Maps & some confusing directions given by friends who were trying to be helpful, we managed to find the place; we drove past it!

Atie requested for, of course, a love themed cupcakes in black, white & red. She chose Chocolate Raisin Almond flavored cupcakes with strawberry filling & topped with chocolate ganache.. Fairuz was one lucky guy! She also requested for a card & an adorable teddy bear. My oh my.. why wouldn't he be on cloud 9?! That's a rhetorical question by the way hehehehe... Hope that the two of you lovebirds will stay this way forever. Hmm.. Valentine's Day is coming.. Simply Chantique has to gear up for the occasion! Til we meet again, cheerio!!

Get Well Soon My Bro; Mr Ben Badri.

He was my senior back in university & now he's my colleague, all in all I've known him for almost 17 years now. Mr Ben has always been an amiable character, a strong-willed & most hardworking person I've ever known. I learn a lot from him and I truly admire him for all those characters.

These 'hantaran' cupcakes, wedding cakes & birthday cakes were ordered by him for his niece's wedding. Sadly to say, he was not able to witness the occasion. He was hospitalized for high blood pressure. Bro Ben, I think it's about time for you to put yourself & your family first. As much as we would like to meet the expectations of other people, there will be a time when we have to be selfish, all for the better. Duh.. what am I babbling about?? He's a fighter! He's an iron man! Go and hit the gym bro! Gambate!! ekekekekeke get well soon Bro Ben, we miss you at the department.

So these 3-tier wedding cakes were done in the theme color; purple. Mr Ben was kind enough to sponsor the cakes for his beloved niece. He did not specify any design for the cakes, so I did what I had to do & had fun with it!

Instead of the normal roses, I settled with carnations, or so I thought hehehehe.. I was, well in Malay we call it "syok sendiri" aka in my own la-la land! Well at least I did it with passion.

Now these 'hantaran' (gift for the groom) cupcakes were also done in purple and there were only seven pieces of them, snuggled nicely in a window box.

The birthday cake for the kids was of course a chocolate moist cake donned in mouth watering chocolate ganache all over complete with an edible image of course by Simply Chantique's hehehe.. For you bakers out there, in Kota Kinabalu specifically you don't have to go high & low to find good quality edible images ever again. Wait for the launching of Simply Chantique's Edible Images collection! Soon.. tungguuuu....

ATwo-Tier Birthday Cakes for Yi Yi & Ya Ya

Kids nowadays are so lucky I tell you! Parents take care of most of the details in their children's lives down to their birthday cakes hahahaha! In the case of siblings; Yi Yi & Ya Ya, they happen to be one of my regular customer; Azah's neighbors. Their parents are, to be precise. According to Azah, they had the chance to taste one of our cakes last time so they decided to order from Simply Chantique 's Cupcakes & Cakes.

For Yi Yi & Ya Ya's birthdays, they had chocolate moist cake with chocolate ganache topping for the bottom tier, and for the top tier it was yam cake with fresh cream topping. I bet they were the happiest birthday girls on that day!

We truly hope that the girls will grow up to be just as thoughtful & loving as their parents are. It was a joy for us in making the birthday cakes for Yi Yi & Ya Ya. The beauty of innocence does bring out the best in us. Happy birthday girls!

From Fui Fui of Wakayama, Japan with Love..

Our first email exchange was in November 2010 with some minor confusions hahahaha.. forgive me Fui Fui, I seriously thought the orders were for your wedding. Having been in the business for almost two years now, I had had some pleasant surprises when it comes to my customers. More often than not, a mere business relationships turned to friendships as in the case of me & Fui Fui and boy was I in for another big surprise. Don't let Fui Fui's sweet & innocent look deceive you.. she's one iron lady!

I was wondering what's she doing in Japan, to date Fui Fui's orders were the farthest we'd received. Okay here we go, she's a young & gorgeous wife, a mother of one adorable baby, and she's currently doing her Phd at Kinki University, Japan. I just get easily blown away by strong brainy beautiful women just like Fui Fui, Serra, Sharon, Intan, Ana just to name a few of our customers hehehehe.. Simply Chantique is just blessed, as simple as that.

Now Fui Fui ordered 350 pieces of chocolate butter fancy cookies as well as 24 pieces of chocolate moist cupcakes in pink for her sister in-law's wedding. Hahaha!! It's been a while since the last time we burned our midnight oil finishing bulk orders, but we enjoyed every minute of it! The cookies were nicely packed complete with ribbons of the theme color; pink.

The cupcakes were decorated according to the samples given by Fui Fui. They were meant for 'hantaran' or a gift for the groom from the bride's side. Snuggled nicely in a window box with again, a pink ribbon. I must say the combination of pink buttercream & the fondant flowers of three different shades of pink matched perfectly. Excellent taste Fui! Thank you so much for trusting us dear, even though we've never met before. We really appreciate it. From the bottom of our hearts, we pray that everything will be smooth sailing for you there. For all you out there, remember; The Hand That Rocks The Cradle is The Hand That Rules The World! You rock women!! hehehehe...

Good News for Bakers in Sabah!! Simply Chantique is now supplying Edible Image yippie!

Did you read the title?? Did you? Please read it again.. hahahaha.. I'm just so happy. I had been ordering my edible images from other suppliers for the past one and a half years or so and now, finally I have my own edible image printer!

Yippieee!! Bakers in Sabah who have had the experience in purchasing edible images from West Malaysia know better that they don't come cheap. I myself used to order from Lea of eleafrost, but the price was worth the prompt service and the quality of the EI. Thank you so much Lea, I really appreciate our business relationships all this while. Your EIs had made my customers happy! Now, it's my turn to make my future customers happy, happier & superlatively happiest!

But please hold on for a little longer, my darling PA aka husband is in the process of updating the templates all for the convenience of you, our future customers. We'll let you know FOR SURE!! hehehehe.. in the mean time, here are some of our previous works using our very own Simply Chantique's Edible Images..

Hmm.. doesn't that sound melodious; SIMPLY CHANTIQUE EDIBLE IMAGE. Hihihi.. please forgive my vanity, thank you Kak Yana for making my dream come true. One thing for sure, the complete set of the printer, edible ink catridge & edible sugar paper were not cheap. They cost us quite a fortune huhuhu.. but they are worth every ringgit! This yam cake was ordered by a colleague of mine, Rina for her daughter's birthday. Just look at the vibrant colors on the image and just imagine the joy in those faces upon seeing it; PRICELESS! Thank you so much Rina.

This chocolate moist cake with orange filling was ordered by my sister's colleague, Shahmin's mummy. Don't you just feel like pinching the baby's cheek! Congratulations to Intan & Ibrahim on Your Wedding (5.12.2010)

I first met Intan at the Sabahan Blogshop Fleamarket, Jesselton Point early 2010 in which we took part. We 'clicked' immediately hahaha.. great minds think alike kan Intan?? Lalalala... she ordered fondant cupcakes from us as one of the hantaran for her engagement (please refer to our posting on 'Intan is taking the plunge') and the rest is history. I made a new friend, a pretty & intelligent lady with a pleasant personality, no wonder it's so easy to fall in love with her. Mr. Ibrahim, congratulations for winning her heart hehehe..

When she contacted me asking me to do her wedding cakes, I was more than happy, I was honored. To be chosen as part of one of the most important events in a person's life, in this case not only just any person but a lovely friend of mine, what more could I say. One more thing that I enjoyed about her is the opinionated side of Intan. She knew exactly what she wanted & that made everything a breeze. Upon receiving her gorgeous invitation card, imported all the way from Jakarta, I knew that I had to give my best.

Intan wanted a 3-tier fondant wedding cakes & the inspiration was the artist; Elyana's wedding cake. Of course we couldn't copy the exact creation as it was a 6-tier, but we tried. The pink & lilac themed wedding was held at Kompleks Tabung Haji, Sembulan. We arrived there at around 10.30am to set up the cakes but we didn't get to witness the bersanding ceremony as it was scheduled in the afternoon at 1pm to be exact. Nevertheless, I knew that it was going to be a lovely wedding. I hope you won't get tired of me congratulating you Intan & husband, Ibrahim on your wedding. Here shared with you our readers, are bits & pieces of more wonderfulness to come.

Thank you Atika for trusting Simply Chantique

What's with the title of today's entry? or as how my students would say it in their version of broken English; "Madam, what is the because...??" ekekeke or directly translated into Malay as "Madam, apa sebabnya??". Hmm.. I just feel melancholic today.

"Trust" is defined as 'reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.' (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/trust). It doesn't come easy, even with those closest to us. So when I was doubted in terms of handling a customer's order, it came as a blow to me, not really a major one but enough to scar. Yes, as the saying goes; a customer is always right. But please.. don't judge me when I didn't get to do anything yet to start with. I do understand, it's not easy to do online business. We practically have to TRUST the other party, be it the seller or the buyer, even without knowing or meeting him/her in person. That's scary if you asked me! Thank God I was never cheated in my years of online shopping (hehehe.. is it obvious that I do them a lot??).

But YES, I was cheated before by a customer, who literally 'forced' me to do her order because she kept on saying that payment had been made which was non-existent. She then had the cheek to ask me for a refund. I tried my best to handle the matter professionally & patiently but that just made me blew my top! I emailed her the statement that proved no whatsoever payment was made, and that if she kept on 'harassing' me I had no choice but to take further action; a police report.

As far as the 'would be customer' who doubted me, she apologized if she had in any way offended me. I was touched, but I truly understood how she felt dealing with a total stranger especially when it comes to money. Alhamdulillah, thank you Allah, I'd received more long-distant orders than before, the furthest to date was from Japan (dearest Fui Fui I'll update on that later hihi...). I guess, at the end of the day, you just have to trust your instinct.

Atika was one of my long-distant customers. All the way from Kuala Lumpur, she ordered two sets of 24-pieces cupcakes each for her friends here in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. She's one bubbly, pretty lady hehehe... I enjoyed her cheerfulness, it brought back memories of my youth hahahahaha... I'm still one, TRUST me!

The pink ones were for her best friend's birthday; Diba, at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I enjoyed watching her surprised thinking that she only had to deliver the other set of cupcakes as told by Atika. I truly admire this kind of friendship, the distance is not a barrier at all.

Whereas the blue ones were for her newly wedded friends; Florine & Rafi. I was glad to receive an sms from Atika upon receiving my mms that she's so happy to see the outcome. Thank you so much for your trust dear Atika. Stay pretty & adorable. Congratulations to Diba, Florine & Rafi, not only on your birthday & wedding but also for having a very thoughtful friend by the name of Atika Maketar. Cherish your friendship forever! Til then.. let me mend my scarred heart.. hihihi.. show me my Häagen-Dazs!!!

Yam Cake, Chocolate Moist & Banana Cupcakes for Qaseh Harmoni's Family Day

Anna Alya of Liasara Restaurant in Likas is one of our regular customers. It was an honor for Simply Chantique Cupcakes & Cakes to be chosen again to do a yam flavored cake for her company's; Qaseh Harmoni family day at Mimpian Jadi Resort in Tuaran, Sabah.

..but that wasn't just about it, it was the cupcakes that we enjoyed the most making; 50 pieces of them altogether with half of which were chocolate flavored & the other half were banana flavored, all topped with delicious chocolate ganache.

Anna asked for fancy decorations for the cupcakes with names of all the family members who attended the family day on each of the cupcake. The cupcakes were meant for celebrating the birthdays of all of them in the year 2010.

Thank you so much Anna and we, at Simply Chantique pray that your business will prosper more in the year 2011. Cheerio!!
